Architects as Sculptors

When: 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM MONDAY, APRIL 17

Where: At The Center

Focusing on three contemporary practices based in New York City, some recurring philosophical questions will be discussed: What is the difference between sculpture and architecture? Can architects practice at the intersection of architecture and sculpture? Can architects be sculptors?

These and other related questions will be illuminated by the panelists in the context of the unique architecture fields within Art Omi, near Hudson, New York. Created to explore the intersection of architecture, art, and landscape, Architecture Omi offers 60 dedicated acres within the 300-acre campus for these experiments.

The increased blurring between the two fields of architecture and sculpture — facilitated at times by technology and materials on the one hand, and the ever-expanding constellation of architectural venues on the other — requires this status report.
