Oculus Book Talk: Mark Foster Gage presents Composites, Surfaces, and Software - High Performance ArchitectureAIA CES: 1.5 LUs
When: 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM WEDNESDAY, MAY 18
Where: At The Center
Co-editor Mark Foster Gage will present Composites, Surfaces, and Software: High Performance Architecture (WW Norton, March 2011).
Composites, Surfaces, and Software: High Performance Architecture explores how computer technologies and digital fabrication techniques give architects unprecedented tools for crafting performance and aesthetics through cross-disciplinary collaboration.
Boat, airplane, and automobile design tools and software are now applied to architectural projects using robotics and high-strength, low-weight, carbon fiber composites. Co-editor Greg Lynn's studio and Mark Foster Gage's seminar at Yale—with participants Frank Gehry, Lise Ann Couture, Chris Bangle, and Greg Foley, among others—generated a lively dialogue invigorating the future of design.
Mark Foster Gage is the founding partner of Gage / Clemenceau Architects in New York City, as well as Acting Assistant Dean, Associate Professor, and Chair of the Design Committee at the Yale University School of Architecture. His work has been exhibited internationally at venues including the Museum of Modern Art in New York City, the Museum of the Art Institute of Chicago, and the Deutsches Architektur Zentrum in Berlin. Mr. Gage was one of the architects selected to represent the United States in the Beijing International Biennale in 2010. Gage / Clemenceau Architects received an AIA New Practices citation in 2006, and was chosen as a finalist in the Museum of Modern Art/ PS1 Young Architects Program in 2007. In 2008 Mr. Gage was selected as a winner of the New York Architectural League's Young Architects Forum, and in 2009 he was nominated for the inaugural Ordos Prize in Architecture as one of the most influential emerging architects internationally.
