Buckminster Fuller and Isamu Noguchi: Best of Friends, A Book Reading and Conversation with Shoji Sadao
AIA CES: 1.0 LU
When: 6:30 PM - 8:00 PM WEDNESDAY, JUNE 15
Where: At The Center
Shoji Sadao, AIA, architect and longtime friend, collaborator, and business partner of both Isamu Noguchi and Buckminster Fuller, joins Jonathan Marvel, AIA, principal at Rogers Marvel Architecture, for a discussion of Mr. Sadao’s new book, Buckminster Fuller and Isamu Noguchi: Best of Friends. They will discuss major themes of the book, which is a fascinating chronicle of the personal and professional relationship of Fuller, an icon of modern creative and scientific thought, and Noguchi, one of the twentieth century's most acclaimed sculptors and designers. In so doing, they will provide an insider's perspective on the men, their achievements, and the social and cultural milieu in which their relationship flourished.
The former executive director of the Isamu Noguchi Foundation and an honorary life trustee of the Isamu Noguchi Foundation and Garden Museum, Shoji Sadao is president of the architecture firm of Fuller and Sadao PC and a trustee of SNEC (Synergetics Collaborative) and the Isamu Noguchi Foundation of Japan.
Jonathan Marvel, AIA, partnered with Robert Rogers to form Rogers Marvel Architects in 1992. He teaches at Parsons The New School for Design and Columbia University, and has lectured around the country, focusing on the design of public spaces with an intent to balance the man-made and natural world. Mr. Marvel is on the board of both the Isamu Noguchi Foundation and Garden Museum and the Buckminster Institute.
Organized by the Center for Architecture and The Noguchi Museum.
Cost: free for AIA and Noguchi Museum members; $10 non-members
