Agenda:
There is a vitality in healthcare design at the present time. There is also a realization, that these projects are so large, touch so much of the urban fabric, involve so many people, and are so expensive, that they must be treated as the major civic structures that they are. The quality of design in these buildings is really high – and talented designers and young people are bringing the latest design tools to bear, not just on the design, but on the functional areas as well. This trend should be encouraged.

Healthcare has moved into the general mainstream, and it is likely to stay there. Hospitals and Lab buildings are now judged within the discipline, not just as different building categories, but in the same terms as all great architecture projects. They are expected to bring forth the same level of craft, innovation, and most importantly – intellectual and creative ideas. This panel will discuss how the design bar has been raised in healthcare and how this should have a positive impact on the health, wellness, and social fabric of communities as well.
