Bronx River Right-of-Way: Presentation and Conversation with SLO Architecture
When: 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM THURSDAY, SEPTEMBER 27
Where:Axor NYC 29 Ninth Avenue New York, New York 10014
Please join us at Axor NYC for a presentation and conversation with SLO Architecture, one of the 2012 New Practices New York (NPNY) winners!
Alexander Levi, AIA, and Amanda Schachter, AIA, principals of SLO Architecture, will present recent work along the Bronx River and unveil Bronx River Right-of-Way, a project to reclaim Cass Gilbert’s Westchester Avenue Station for NYC's waterways. Bronx River Right-of-Way is funded by the 2011 Richard L. Blinder Award of the James Marston Fitch Charitable Foundation.
Levi and Schachter founded SLO Architecture in Madrid and since 2007 have been based in New York City. Licensed in both Spain and New York, they are native New Yorkers. Prior to starting their office they were involved in numerous public building projects in Europe where they resided from 1998-2007.
SLO Architecture is one of the winners of the AIA New York Chapter "2012 New Practices New York" competition. They received the 2011 Blinder Award, a grant awarded biennially by the James Marston Fitch Foundation, for which they are realizing Bronx River Right-of-Way. They were awarded a 2011 MCAF grant from the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council for Harvest Dome, as well as the 2008-2009 Van Alen Institute New York Prize Fellowship for which they realized Bronx River Crossing, a project that brings together Bronx Youths with university students from New York City to study the Bronx River Watershed and promote social and urban connections along the borough’s main waterway.
Levi received his M.Arch. from Yale University and Schachter received her M.Arch. from Princeton University.
