Beyond New York: Organic vs. Geometrical Context
When: 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM FRIDAY, MARCH 8
Where: At The Center
As part of the Architecture Dialogue Committee’s on-going series, Beyond New York, introducing the next generation of architects not practicing in New York City, we have invited Spela Videcnik from OFIS arhitekti of Ljubljana, Slovenija to share insights about architectural and urban design. Videcnik will present OFIS’s design approach through their most recently built projects, such as the Basket Apartments (Paris) and The Cultural Centre for Space Technologies (Slovenia), and how these different geometries inform their current work.
Spela Videcnik (1971) graduated from the University of Ljubljana Faculty of Architecture (October 1998) and London’s Architectural Association (MA January 2000). Before establishing OFIS arhitekti with Rok Oman (1970) in 1996 they won several prominent competitions, such as the Maribor Football Stadium and the Ljubljana City Museum. Many of their projects have been nominated for awards including the Mies van der Rohe award. In 2009 they received a Silver IOC/IAKS medal for their football stadium, in 2006 they received the European Grand Prix for Innovation Award, in 2005 their Villa Bled received an honorable mention at the Miami Bienal and in 2004 they were highly commended for their City Museum renovation and extension by the UK Architectural Review’s annual AR+D awards. In 2000 they won the prestigious “Young architect of the Year” award in London to mention a few of their achievements. She is currently a visiting critic at the Harvard Graduate School of Design.
