Live Design: Case Studies of a Parametric Practice
CES LUs: 1.5; HSW: 1.5When: 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM TUESDAY, JUNE 9
Where: At The Center
Live Architecture Network approaches architectural development through interdisciplinary collaborations enabled by DIGITAL DESIGN + FABRICATION. The speakers direct a global collaborative on digital design in architecture for academic and client-based projects.
LaN’s digital fabrication workshops in Barcelona, Istanbul, Rome, Brooklyn, and San Diego all push participants (Students/Professionals) to redefine design processes and traditional construction methodology. Fabrication is no longer a result but a catalyst for new approaches to design. The utilization of an associative approach not only provides for the generation of complex geometry but allows for the integration of external data; project progress, material properties, manufacturing constraints, and economic forecasting, become essential drivers of design. The use of Parametric Software promotes flexibility throughout the architectural process, permitting design decisions to be consistently applied at each phase. Emphasis is placed back on design and performance. Clients are no longer presented with a single solution but a range of possibilities to choose from.
Projects remain “Live” from conception to materialization. Parametric Design limits the invested energy in static singular objects, facilitating a smooth transition from conceptual design to construction while retaining the clarity of the original.
