Small Firms/Global Reach

AIA CES: 1.5 LU

When: 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM MONDAY, ARCHTOBER 21

Where: At The Center

In today's increasingly robust global economy, many of the busiest architectural markets are located outside of the United States. Though the construction booms in China and the Middle East have received most of the attention, American firms are increasingly being commissioned to do work throughout the world.

The largest US design offices and a few internationally known “starred" architects have generally, in the past, received commissions for major international projects. Recently, more and more small and mid-size firms in New York City have been hired to work at a variety of scales overseas.

“Small Firms/Global Reach” brings together nine small New York-based firms working on sites in Africa, Asia, Europe, the Middle East and South America to discuss their experiences along with the opportunities and the challenges of working internationally.

Speakers will present current or recent international work, followed by an open round-table discussion. Presentations will cover finding clients, team structure, executing the work, compensation, as well as opportunities for innovation, cultural exchange and public service.
