Earthquakes - How Well Are We Prepared?

Seismologists, earthquake engineers, seismic code experts, emergency response managers, and architects conversant in seismic design for a conversation on available technologies and testing capabilities that, surprisingly, are located in New York State. They will clarify the evolving role of design professionals, the building industry, and municipal and federal agencies in safeguarding our local communities. They will educate the audience about the earthquakes, subsurface conditions, and construction approaches.

This program is related to the exhibition Considering the Quake: Seismic Design on the Edge, on view from February 13, 2014 to May 26, 2014. This event is an initiative of the 2014 Presidential theme: ‘Civic Spirit:Civic Vision.‘
Considering the Quake was originally presented at the Design Exchange in downtown Toronto. At the Center for Architecture in New York, it includes an installation by SOFTLab in consultation with engineers from Arup.
