AIANY COTE 2014 Proof and Beauty Awards
When: 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM THURSDAY, DECEMBER 18
Where: At The Center
Is beauty enough? Our design community is increasingly charged to provide proof that truly sustainable buildings also meet increasingly higher standards for performance.
Climate change, political stability, energy and water independence, under-funded urban infrastructure, and environmental impacts to individual health are all now part of the design conversation and part of our responsibility. These challenges present new opportunities to enrich the profession — to create a positive impact on the world we build in. Truly beautiful creation is built from just this type of substantive calibration; problem solving without new problem making. In the proof of our impact there lies something truly beautiful.
This first annual AIANY COTE Awards was initiated in order to promote greater understanding of regionally specific sustainable design strategies through transparency, comparative operational data, and compelling lessons learned that reveal and inspire new materials, technologies, and design solutions. In order to nourish the design community, entries reveal the direct impacts of their projects, share the tools developed along the way, engage in the redefinition of value, and illustrate challenges overcome during the process of design and construction.
Join the AIANY Chapter of the Committee on the Environment (COTE) for the first annual awards presentation to learn from winning project(s), in which lessons of proof reveal the process behind real innovation in our metropolitan context. A discussion between organizer, juror, winners and audience members will help encourage our profession to raise the bar in every project, in pursuit of beauty.
