ASLA-NY 2017 Design Awards
The Annual Design Awards held by the American Society of Landscape Architects, New York Chapter represent excellence in professional accomplishment by ASLA New York members in five categories: General Design, Residential Design, Collaborative Design, Analysis/Planning/Research and Communications, and Un-Built Projects.
From projects that examine a site’s historic and cultural influences to those that explore innovative design approaches, this year’s ASLA-NY Design Award winning submissions showcase the full range of the landscape architecture profession. There is a clear theme of resiliency and sustainability with the award winners that show appreciation for the long term value of landscapes - embracing changing conditions of climate and urbanization in the urban projects to appreciation of seasonal characteristics of plants, light and weather in the residential projects.
Juried by an interdisciplinary team from the North Carolina, South Carolina and Georgia ASLA chapters, this year five Honor awards and ten Merit awards were selected. “Many of the winning entries demonstrate a masterful use of plant selection and planting design for both artistic expression and interpretation of the site but also to create high performing landscape strategies for environmental sustainability. I am constantly impressed with the inspiring and innovative design solutions our members are producing that elevate the profession and create more awareness of the complexities of landscape architecture today and into the future,” comments Jennifer Nitzky, ASLA New York Chapter President.
