Re-Imagining the Havana Home: Authentic Cuban Style Past, Present, and Future

When: 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM WEDNESDAY, MARCH 29

Where:170 East 70th Street New York, NY 10021

Since 2010, Cuban-American Hermes Mallea, co-founder of (M)Group, has been working with a handful of Cuban photographers to document the city's rich architectural patrimony that was interrupted by the Cuban Revolution of 1959. In this lecture, Mallea will take us behind the scenes to visit landmark houses constructed between 1860 and 1960 highlighted in his book Great Houses of Havana (Monacelli, 2011). He will also share his passion for the authentically Cuban style homes of the city's artists, international residents, and cultural elite featured in his upcoming book Living in Havana Today (Rizzoli, September 2017) personality-filled interiors that are a testament to Cuban ingenuity, created while working within the constraints imposed by Cuba's economic and material isolation.
