Join the AIANY Interiors Committee for a private tour of Congregation Beit Simchat Torah's new home by Architecture Research Office (ARO). Congregation Beit Simchat Torah (CBST), the world’s largest LGBTQ Jewish congregation, is a vibrant spiritual community and a progressive voice within Judaism. On the tour, participants will learn how the design of the synagogue embodies CBST’s core values through an architecture of accessibility, transparency, and warmth. The tour will be led by both Stephen Cassell, Principal at ARO, and Aari Ludvigsen, Capital Project Coordinator for CBST.

Stephen Cassell, AIA, LEED AP
is principal, with Kim Yao and Adam Yarinsky, of Architecture Research Office (ARO), a 20-person firm based in New York City. The firm’s diverse project portfolio—spanning strategic planning, architecture and urban design—solves seemingly intractable problems with apparent ease, always with an effort to have the greatest aesthetic impact using the fewest natural and financial resources. This portfolio has earned the firm over seventy-five design awards including the Smithsonian Cooper-Hewitt 2011 National Design Award.

Aari Ludvigsen was the Capital Project Coordinator for CBST and completed CBST's 40 year search for a permanent home. As an architect, long-time congregant and board member of CBST, Aari was a critical member of the team that brought this $23 million project to fruition, taking the lead role during preparation for construction and during construction. As Board Vice President, Aari served as the Owner's Representative for the bulk of the project. She served on the Capital Project Steering Committee, worked closely with the Capital Fundraising and Capital Finance groups, and acted as a liaison between CBST's lay leadership, congregants, donors, staff, & clergy and the world-class team of professionals that were involved in the design and construction of the project.

Organized by: AIANY Interiors Committee and AIANY Diversity and Inclusion Committee
