Architecture and the Dea(r)th of Drawing

AIA CES: 1.5 LUs

When: 6:00 PM - 8:00 PM TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 22

Where: At The Center

Artist Stephen Talasnik will present the visionary architectural drawing work of his new book Panorama: Monolithe Intime.  Michael Sorkin, Principal, Michael Sorkin Studios; Peter Macapia, Columbia GSAPP; and Lebbeus Woods will join the conversation in a panel discussion on the place of drawing in architectural practice today.  Nina Rappaport will moderate.

Panorama: Monolithe Intime, is a compendium of drawings and sculpture by artist Stephen Talasnik,  published by Battat Contemporary, Montreal to accompany his solo exhibition this past fall. Architecture, engineering, and transportation design have served as a “muse” for the artist who has also been inspired by the history of visionary architectural drawing, industrial design, fossils, and fictional digital imaging.

The book features a selection of 20 pencil drawings from the past fifteen years along with 10 sculptures in bamboo and basswood. Also included is an image of his most recent large- scale, site- specific sculpture project at the Storm King Art Center in Mountainville, NY. The book, in both French and English contains texts written by Michael Sorkin, architect; and Andreas Schalhorn, Curator of Contemporary Art at the Kupferstichkabinett, State Museum of Berlin.

Free for AIA members; $5 for Drawing Center members; $10 for non-members.

Organized by the Center for Architecture and the Drawing Center.
