Where: At The Center

Please join the Women in Architecture Committee for an conversation with Faith Rose, AIA.

Faith Rose, AIA, is founding partner of O’Neill Rose Architects, an architecture and design firm based in Brooklyn. Founded in 2008 with Devin O’Neill, the firm's work has been recognized in publications and through awards both nationally and internationally.

Rose has dedicated eleven years to the public sector, most recently as Executive Director of the Public Design Commission within the Mayor’s Office of the City of New York. As Executive Director, she oversaw an eleven member Commission that reviews works of architecture, landscape architecture, urban and industrial design, and public art on city-owned land.

Previously, Rose directed the city’s Design and Construction Excellence Program at the NYC Department of Design and Construction (DDC) for ten years under Commissioner David Burney, FAIA. In this capacity, she oversaw the procurement of architects and the design development of approximately 200 projects ranging from museums and libraries to parking garages and fire stations, including Mariners Harbor Library, Queens Museum of Art, and Times Square.

While at DDC, Rose created and implemented the Design Metric Program, a metric-based evaluation program that was adopted agency-wide. She also managed the Peer Review Program and oversaw the Design Commission approval process for both the Structures and Infrastructure Divisions.

Rose is an ardent advocate for public design excellence and has created many collaborative events with AIANY ranging from a 2005 panel that brought together the city’s three library organizations to discuss recent changes in branch libraries to a recent series about design and equity, which began with an event titled ‘Design and Equity: The Community Parks Initiative.” Through these collaborations, Rose brings city initiatives to public attention and break down barriers across government agencies and between city government and the design community.

Rose received a masters degree in architecture from Yale University and graduated with honors from Amherst College. She began her professional career at Deborah Berke and Partners in 1998, and continued to work as an architect in the private sector until 2004, when she began working at the DDC.

She has taught at design institutions including the Rhode Island School of Design and Temple University. She is AIANY Board Member and sits on the Center for Architecture Exhibition Committee. In 2014 she received the Public Architect Award from the AIA New York Chapter, and she was recently awarded the President’s Award from AIANYS, both in recognition of her work in the public sector.
