Susan Miller-Viray
spent twelve years as a leader in healthcare-specific advertising, where she launched six multi-billion-dollar brands for Pfizer. She founded the Bloc in 2000, which has since become the second-largest, independent, full-service healthcare creative agency in the United States. Susan remains committed to brand building and is continually pushing her teams at the Bloc to redefine what it means to build a global brand in a rapidly changing industry.

Rico Viray, trained as a physiologist, spent the first part of his career conducting scientific research in shock, dialysis, and artificial blood substitutes. As HIV/AIDS emerged as the leading public health challenge, he became an associate medical director for oncology and anti-infectives. He continued working in HIV research and advocacy and led the team that launched the GlaxoSmithKline HIV portfolio: Epivir, Combivir, Agenerase, and Ziagen. It was at Lowe McAdams that he met his partner and wife Susan Miller. Shortly thereafter, they launched The CementWorks, now known as The Bloc.

Fauzia Khanani, Assoc. AIA, is principal and founder of Foz Design, a multi-disciplinary architecture and design studio established in 2011, and a founding member of the AIANY Social Science & Architecture Committee. Foz Design’s work includes custom residential, commercial office, and public spaces spanning from New York to California. Khanani holds a Master of Architecture degree from the University of California, Berkeley, as well as an undergraduate degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in sociology, and held a prior career in the field of public health. Foz Design completed its first commercial office project, The Bloc, in 2015 which was awarded the International Facility Management Association NYC Chapter Awards for Excellence in Design & Construction of a New Facility (under 75,000 SF) and was also nominated for the inaugural NYCxDesign Awards.

Melissa Marsh, Assoc. AIA, defined an early career building cross-disciplinary consulting practices within a number of leading architectural firms. She is the founder of PLASTARC, which employs people analytics, social research, and design metrics to create a more flexible and engaging built world. An active contributor to many professional communities, Melissa is the co-founder of the AIANY Social Science Committee and curates the AIANY Transforming Architectural Practice series which promotes the advancement of the business of architecture through greater dialogue with other disciplines.
